Brand Innovation wins contract for new European wave energy project

Brand Innovation has been appointed to handle the marketing and PR for a new €19.6 million European wave energy project.

WEDUSEA is a pioneering collaboration between 14 partners, spanning industry  and academia from across the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Spain. It is co-ordinated by the Irish company OceanEnergy.

The WEDUSEA project, which runs until September 2026,  is co-funded by Horizon Europe and Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency.

OceanEnergy has developed the OE35, which is the world’s largest capacity floating wave energy device. The WEDUSEA project will demonstrate a grid connected 1MW OE35 floating wave energy converter at the European Marine Energy Centre Test Site in Orkney, Scotland.

WEDUSEA is setting out to prove the viability of large scale wave energy, paving the way for the commercial development of wave energy arrays worldwide.

Matthijs Soede from the European Commission said:  “We are expecting WEDUSEA to take wave energy beyond the state of the art by the collaboration of partners with a multi-disciplinary background and that it will contribute to the deployment of arrays of reliable wave energy devices to achieve the 1GW target for 2030 as in our Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy. The current energy crisis shows that the use of multiple energy sources is important to improve the security of supply and a breakthrough in ocean energy would be welcome.”

The WEDUSEA marketing contract builds on Brand Innovation’s marine technology experience. Since 2017, the company has handled the marketing for the EU funded innovation project Marine-i, landing hundreds of pieces of media coverage in marine and renewable energy titles around the world.  The company also managed the brand development for Celtic Sea Power, which is leading Floating Offshore Wind development in the South West, and handles marketing for marine tech businesses, including Feritech Global, which has sales in 44 countries.

Brand Innovation Managing Director, Lynn File, said:

“It is incredibly exciting to work with such innovative organisations as part of their team. We are looking forward to helping the WEDUSEA partnership boost the wave energy sector worldwide.”
